Tina Turner

‘The Queen of Rock ‘n‘ Roll ‘

Tina Turner was an American-born singer, songwriter and actress. Born Anna Mae Bullock to poor, sharecropper parents on 26th November 1939, in Nutbush, Tennessee. She grew up in relative poverty during her childhood and moved to St. Louis at age 16.

She rose to fame in the early 1960s as the lead singer of the duo Ike & Tina Turner. Tina was renowned for her highly energetic live performances and [gutsy] vocals. In 1966 they recorded a version of ‘River Deep - Mountain High‘ produced by Phil Spector, which later became one of her best loved classics.

Tina separated from Ike Turner in 1978 and pursued a solo career path. In 1984 she released her debut solo album, ‘Private Dancer‘, which won a total of three Grammys and sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.

Tina has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, once as part of the duo Ike and Tina Turner in 1991, and also as a solo performer in 2021.

She has sold more than 180 million albums and inspired generations of fans, along with rock and pop stars. Her soulful voice, energetic performances, and unique blend of rock, soul and R&B has influenced many artists.
